Introduction

The STCW Management Level course is structured modular and covers all competences as determined by the STCW 1978 convention and code, as amended.

  • Management level
    Table A-II/2 Specification of minimum standard of competence for masters and chief mates on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more.

Only those who have obtained the STCW Operational Level can start the course. (More information: Entry requirements)

On successful completion of the STCW Management Level course and after having obtained the necessary sailing time*, the trainee will receive the required certificates to sail as first officer or captain on all ship types excluding tankers. (The course is recognized by the Belgian Federal Administration for Mobility and Transport).

Due to the modular nature of the course, it is possible for the trainee to spread the course over several years.

*Necessary Sailing Time:

  • for certification as chief mate, not less than 12 months, and
     
  • for certification as master, not less than 36 months; however, this period may be reduced to not less than 24 months if not less than 12 months of such seagoing service has been served as chief mate.
